Amir Lugo-Rodriguez

Amir Lugo-Rodriguez, a former All-American middle blocker at Long Beach State, is in his second season an assistant coach for the Golden Bears.

Lugo-Rodriguez excelled both on and off the court at Long Beach State, where he was an AVCA First Team All-American as a senior and was named the Off The Block National Blocker of the Year while helping the 49ers to a pair of appearances in the NCAA Final Four. Lugo-Rodriguez also was a three-time MPSF All-Academic selection and president of Long Beach State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Lugo-Rodriguez has also spent time in the U.S. National Team program, having started at middle blocker for Team USA at the 2017 World University Games and earning a preliminary roster spot for the 2015 Pan American Cup. He has also trained with the U.S. National A2 Team.

Lugo-Rodriguez earned his bachelor's degree in Consumer Affairs from Long Beach State and has a master's degree in Sports Management from LBSU. He also spent one season playing professionally in France’s first division.

Before joining the Cal staff, Lugo-Rodriguez spent one season as the Director of Operations at his alma mater, culminating in a national championship for the program. The 49ers also won the Big West Conference regular season title before winning the conference tournament as well. 

He has also served as a club coach for the San Gabriel Elite Volleyball Club. Lugo-Rodriguez also competed for Santa Monica Beach Club (SMBC) as a prep.
