Grimes has a career record of 189-122-40 in 18 seasons at Cal after coaching the Golden Bears to an 11-7 record in 2017 and an NCAA Tournament selection. In 2014, he led the Bears to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 as the tournament's 15th overall seed and the team finished with an overall record of 11-7-1. He also led the Bears in arguably their best season in program history in 2013, when they were ranked number one by the NSCAA poll for six consecutive weeks for the first time in program history, finishing the season with a 14-5-2 record and an appearance in the NCAA Elite 8. The Bears were the fourth overall seed, also the highest seed ever in school history. Grimes was also named NSCAA Far West Region Coach of the Year.
