Cal Water Polo Head Coach, Kirk Everist, has designed an exciting program this winter! Camp will take place each day at the Spieker Aquatic Complex that was just host to the 2022 NCAA Championship, where the Bears became back-to-back National Champions. 

The focus of the program will be in-water instruction on the fundamentals of the game. Fundamental passing, shooting, team and individual defense along with tactical discipline and individual aspects of the game will be discussed. Don’t miss this opportunity to work with the top players and coaches in the country.

All Cal Sports Camps are open to any and all entrants. For your safety and benefit, we recommend you choose a camp that fits your level of development. All events are subject to change based on NCAA and Covid-19 restrictions. Due to high demand and limited capacity, prices are subject to increase as camp exceeds 25%/50%/75% capacity.

    Directing the Cal Water Polo Camp during the summer is Kirk Everist, the California Golden Bears Head Men's Water Polo Coach.

  • Jeff Tyrrell Cal Waterpolo Headshot

    Associate Head Coach - Men's Water Polo Jeff Tyrrell

    Jeff Tyrrell, the hero of California’s 2006 last-second victory for the NCAA men’s water polo title, completed his seventh season as Cal’s assistant coach in 2022 after serving the previous two seasons (2014-15) as the volunteer assistant. Following the 2021 season, he was promoted to Associate Head Coach. The Bears boast a 137-36 record and have won two national championships ('21, '22) since Tyrrell joined Kirk Everist’s staff in 2016.

Camp Details

This winter, Cal is offering a two day camp December 16-17 (Saturday & Sunday 9:00am-4:00pm) for ages 12-18. Our goal is to engage and inspire each player at camp and to instill positive character traits such as confidence, self-motivation, and a passion for the sport.

Camp will be held on the beautiful UC Berkeley campus, located on the eastern side of the San Francisco Bay with the central campus resting on 178 acres in Berkeley, California. Camp will take place each day at the Spieker Aquatic Complex that was just host to the 2022 NCAA Championship, where the Bears became back-to-back National Champions. 

This camp is open to any and all entrants. For your safety and benefit, we recommend you choose a camp that fits your particular skills and level of development.

Our goal is to engage and inspire each player at camp and to instill positive character traits such as confidence, self-motivation, and a passion for the sport.

SKILLS CAMP

The Skills Camp program is designed for middle school and high school players (Ages 12-18). This program is designed to provide youth players with the fundamentals, latest drills, in-water scrimmages and position specific training (Divers, Shooters, Goalies and 2 Meter Offense & Defense) essential for improvement.

CAMP INFO

A detailed camper registration packet containing check-in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers prior to camp. Our health and release forms do not require a doctor's signature and they will be collected on the first day of camp.

  • Check-in between 8:30-9:00 am on Saturday at Spieker Aquatic Complex.
  • Check-out will be at 4:00 pm at the pool each day.

Instruction will emphasize:

  1. Shooting, drive defense, defending center, pressure passing, and other important skill sets.
  2. Goal Setting sessions

Things to bring:

  1. Health & Release Forms (Online)
  2. Water Bottle (we will provide filtered water)
  3. Please bring a healthy lunch and snacks each day
  4. Goggles
  5. Dryland shoes and apparel
  6. 2 x Towels
  7. Flip Flops
  8. Rubber Caps
  9. Water Polo Suit (zipper)
  10. Sunscreen
  11. Sweatshirt (for cooler weather and/or tours)
  12. Pen and notebook (Strongly encouraged)
  13. Hat
  14. Backpack
  15. Campers must bring their own lunch each day

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

Due to University and NCAA Policies, we are not allowed to offer any transportation to and from camps. The airport closest to the Berkeley campus is Oakland International The camp is not allowed to offer any transportation to and from camps. The airport closest to the Berkeley campus is Oakland International Airport; San Francisco International Airport is also within a reasonable distance. Campers are responsible for their own transportation to and from camp.
