Cal Volleyball Names Sam Crosson as New Head Coach

Cal Volleyball Announces New Head Coach

UC Berkeley has named a new Head Volleyball Coach leading in to their upcoming 2019 season. Sam Crosson, a native of Santa Cruz, will return to the Haas Pavilion this fall after a seven-season stint with the Cal Poly Mustangs. In his final years coaching the Mustangs, he led the team to postseason playoffs for 2017 and 2018, while also posting an overall 116-83 record. 

Crosson is no stranger to the California Bears, as he was previously an assistant coach and Cal Volleyball Camps coach from 2010-2011. During this time, the Bears claimed the Pac-10 championship, and were runners-up in the NCAA Tournament Championship. Crosson will be replacing Interim Head Coach Jennifer Dorr, who will stay on an as Associate Head Coach for the Bears.

When asked about his move back to the Bay Area, Crosson said “I am truly honored and thankful for the opportunity to be the head coach for the Cal Volleyball program.” He also stated, “I look forward to returning to campus and beginning a new chapter in Cal Volleyball.”

The 2019 season will add on to his 20 years of collegiate coaching experience. He coaching career consists of University of Pacific, his alma mater, and continues to Santa Clara, Saint Mary’s, UC Berkeley, and Cal Poly SLO.

Crosson will be taking over as director of the Cal Volleyball Camps, and will be hosting with the UC Berkeley Volleyball staff. The Bay Area summer volleyball camps are designed to improve players’ technique and tactical knowledge in the sport.
